The Hausa Princess Episode 3

πŸ“œ The Hausa Princess – Episode 3: The Blood Moon

The desert wind howled like a spirit that night, as Amina and a small band of trusted riders reached the northern frontier. Above them, the moon glowed red, an omen the elders called “Jinin Sarauta” the blood of kings.

But Amina didn’t fear omens.

What she feared was what they found at the village of Tumbin Giwa.

Huts burned to ash. Crops trampled. Children hiding in silence. And etched into the sand with the edge of a blade was a symbol Amina knew too well: Zazzau’s royal seal, painted in the blood of her people.

She dismounted, knees shaking, not from fear, but fury.

“This wasn’t just a raid,” she whispered. “It was a message.”

But as her warriors prepared for retaliation, one of them, the youngest scout, barely more than a boy returned from the hills with news that made Amina’s heart freeze:

“No Zazzau soldiers. No camp. No tracks heading back north.”

“Then who?” she asked.

He held out a piece of cloth, royal blue, trimmed in gold.

It was Kano’s royal military fabric.

The betrayal came not from the outside but from within.

That night, under the blood moon, Amina gathered her warriors.

“We have been fed lies,” she said, her voice like cold steel. “This attack was not foreign. It was planned. Hidden behind the veil of diplomacy. We ride not just for justice but for truth.”

But truth was dangerous.

Because back in Kano, whispers were already spreading: The princess has left her post. She rides with outlaws. She seeks the throne.

In the shadows of the palace, a man smiled—a cousin of royal blood, Prince Gidado, who had always believed the crown should be his. He had no love for Amina. And now, with her gone and her father growing weaker by the day, he saw his chance.

All he needed was proof she had turned rebel.

All he needed… was a little more time.
