The Hausa Princess Episode 4

πŸ“œ The Hausa Princess – Episode 4: The Trap at Dala Hill

The journey back to Kano was swift but not silent.

Amina rode with fire in her heart and questions clouding her mind. If Zazzau didn’t launch the attack, who did? And who inside her own palace was bold enough to stage a massacre under Kano’s banner?

Her loyal riders, thirty brave men and women followed her across the dry plains like shadows. Among them, Danjuma rode silently at her side, his eyes constantly scanning the horizon.

“Something’s wrong,” he said quietly as they neared the ancient rise of Dala Hill, just west of the city walls. “We should’ve seen scouts by now.”

Amina nodded. She had felt it too.

The birds were too quiet.

The road too empty.

And then the trap was sprung.

A volley of arrows rained down from the rocks. Horses reared. Warriors screamed. From the brush emerged men in Kano royal armor but their faces were masked, their swords drawn not in defense, but bloodlust.

Amina fought like the daughter of thunder.

She leapt from her mount, rolled through the sand, and with a single swing of her blade, felled the nearest attacker.

“Don’t kill them!” she shouted. “We need one alive!”

Danjuma tackled a soldier from behind and tore off his mask.

It wasn’t a raider. It was one of Prince Gidado’s personal guards.

Amina’s heart turned to stone.

So it was true. Her own cousin had betrayed her, framed her for treason, and now sent assassins to finish the story before she could speak.

The ambush was brutal. Ten of her riders fell. Blood stained the ancient stones of Dala Hill.

But Amina stood.

Wounded. Enraged. Unbroken.

That night, she and the survivors buried their dead beneath the baobab tree and took an oath.

“No more hiding,” Amina said, her voice hoarse but unshaken. “We return to the palace, not in chains. But as storm and reckoning.”
