The Hausa Princess Episode 5

πŸ“œ The Hausa Princess – Episode 5: The Throne Shall Tremble

The gates of Kano loomed ahead like the jaws of a waiting lion.

Amina and her battered warriors approached the city under the cover of night. The scars of Dala Hill were still fresh, bandaged arms, bloodied cloaks, eyes hardened by betrayal.

But Amina rode tall.

No crown on her head. No army behind her. Just the truth and a stolen seal taken from the masked assassin she had captured alive.

Inside the city, the palace glowed with torchlight and tension.

Prince Gidado had declared her death in a public ceremony just hours before. He claimed she had perished while plotting rebellion in the north. Mourners wept. Drums played.

And Gidado? He stood before the royal court dressed in crimson robes, already wearing the Emir’s ceremonial turban, a crown he had no right to wear.

But as he stepped forward to complete the sacred rite of succession.

The great doors of the council chamber burst open.

Dust swirled. Gasps filled the air. And there stood Amina, flanked by her loyal warriors, her armor scarred but gleaming in the firelight.

Every eye turned.

Some shouted in fear. Others fell to their knees.

Gidado’s face drained of color.

“You... you're dead,” he stammered.

“No,” Amina said, stepping forward. “But you will be, if justice still means anything in this palace.”

She threw the bloodstained seal at his feet.

“I was ambushed by men in Kano armor. Your men. And this” she pointed to the captured assassin dragged in chains behind her “ confessed before Allah, before my warriors, and before the dead.”

Silence.

Then murmurs.

Then rage.

The elders looked to one another. Some demanded a trial. Others wanted blood. But Amina raised her hand, and the room fell still.

“I do not return to beg for power,” she said. “I return to claim responsibility to defend Kano not only with the sword, but with justice. With truth. And if that threatens you, Gidado, then you were never fit to serve her in the first place.”

At that moment, the Emir, her father entered the hall, aided by two attendants. Frail, but clear-eyed.

He looked at Amina.

Then at the prince.

And he said, “Let the crescent rise with her.”

It was done.

Amina was named heir to the throne.

But her journey had only just begun.

The court was divided. Enemies still whispered in the shadows. And now, all of Kano and every kingdom beyondbwould watch to see if a princess could truly rule like a king.
